Uber deemed transport service by EU top court adviser
Uber does provide a transport service and must be licensed properly, the European Union's top court said on Thursday, is a massive blow to the U.S. firm which says it is a disruptive digital enabler. "The Uber electronic platform, whilst innovative, falls within the field of transport: Uber can thus be required to obtain the necessary licenses and authorizations under national law," the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ) said.
This ruling potentially has huge implications in the UK. Uber thus far has navagated around VAT taxation claiming they are a technology company rather than a transport provider.
