Uber turn on the charm with impending licence renewal looming

Perry Richardson

Uber drivers will be able to accept tips from customers as the controversial American private hire firm turn on the charm for the impending operator licence renewal in September.

Driver of the minicab company will also benefit by being able to charge passengers 20p for each minute that they are kept waiting at the pick up point, after the first two minutes on arrival.

Uber 'Partners' will also be able to cancel a job after two minutes instead of the current five minute time period. The driver will receive £5 for each cancellation.

The changes are seen as a response to the impending employment tribunal. Uber are looking to overthrow the original ruling, which would mean all drivers being classed as workers, not self-employed.
