Uber introduce new "clean air plan" to become fully electric by 2022

Perry Richardson

Uber are to bring in a new 35p green fee on all fares which will they claim will help fund a 100% electric fleet by 2022.

The minicab firm, who's licence is up for renewal this month, claims it will raise £150m via its "Clean air plan". The money raised will help provide its drivers a £5,000 grant towards an electric vehicle.

The controversial company who are under severe pressure following numerous scandals, both regionally and internationally, are looking to pull the public on side as the licence renewal approaches.

With a high turnover of drivers on the Uber platform it is unclear how drivers will qualify for the £5,000 and the terms after they accept the grant.

Transport for London have declined to publicly comment on the new plans.
