UberPop pulled from Norway

Uber has suspended it's controversial unlicensed service in Norway. 

As reported in Reuters Uber said on Monday it would suspend UberPop in Oslo until Norway introduced new rules. Some believe this is a new approach from a company who up until now have chosen to do things their way rather than, what many traditional Taxi firms would say, the right way. 

UberPop has already been suspended in many European countries including, France, Belgium, Holland and Finland. 

Uber have chosen to suspend their service this time rather than wait for regulators to pull the plug on it themselves, leaving many to believe this is a new charm offensive adopted by the company's new CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. 

Mr Khosrowshahi took the helm of the company in August this year, replacing Travis Kalanick, who some say used aggressive tactics when launching such services around the world. 

One thing is for sure, Uber will be looking to relaunch in Oslo sometime in the future, claiming it was encouraged by developments in Norway such as the government's sharing economy committee which recommended repealing certain provisions related to taxis and an opinion from EFTA surveillance authority which said Norway's restrictions on taxi licenses were illegal. 

Traditional taxis in Oslo can breathe a sigh of relief for now, but UberPop is likely to be back at some point.
