Two killed or seriously injured every week by cyclists says DoT

Worrying accident statistics released by the Department of Transport have revealed a record number of pedestrians are being killed or seriously injured in collisions with cyclists. 

The report shows that 25 pedestrians were killed in the last seven years and a further 700 seriously injured.

Data shows that three members of the public died due to being struck by a bike last year and another 112 were seriously injured. That's an increase of 16% in comparison to figures four years ago. 

Pedestrian safety has been a hot topic as debate continues on how to reduce the number of incidents involving dangerous cyclists.  Following the conviction of cyclist Charlie Alliston for the death of pedestrian Kim Briggs the Transport Minister Jesse Norman began an urgent review looking as to whether new laws should be brought in to curb the worrying trend.
