Labour peer to repay taxi and rail expenses

It has been revealed that a senior Labour peer will have to repay in excess of £40,000 after confessing to irregularities with his travel expenses.
Labour's chief whip, Lord Bassam of Brighton, claimed for travel expenses despite receiving an overnight allowance.
Lord Bassam, 64, who lives in Brighton, claimed for both rail and taxi fares when travelling to London.
The Times reported that Lord Bassam stated it would have been more appropriate not to have claimed for his travel costs.
