Leeds cabbies hold protest over safety concerns

Cab drivers in Leeds, Yorkshire, hold a "go slow" protest on Monday 11, December, amidst fears over safety. Cab drivers drove their vehicles in convoy from kirkstall to the city centre, leaving commuters facing disruption. According to reports in itv.com the drivers are protesting about what they believe are failures to protect drivers and their passengers against violence and also against penalties being issued to them for using bus lanes without any warning of it being an offence. Chairman of Leeds Private Hire Drivers, Asif Afzal, said: "Kids have been stoning taxi drivers in estates. We've had over 115 reported incidents which have been logged with West Yorkshire Police and we've had no reaction. "We don't want to hang around and wait until there's some sort of fatality, because it's only a matter of time before we have a fatality"
