Automakers Daimler acquire major stake in yet another ride hailing app

Perry Richardson

Giant automaker, Daimler, have acquired a majority stake in French transport app, Chauffeur Prive. The ride-hailing app currently operates in Paris and Lyon. The deal adds to Daimler's controlling stake in MyTaxi and Careem, two main competitors of the controversial American app, Uber. As reported in TechCrunch , Daimler intends to acquire the remaining stakes in Chauffeur Prive by 2019. Like many other automakers, Daimler has been very pro-active in acquiring investments in the ride-hailing industry which is likely to be a big asset if they eventually go down the route of autonomous vehicles.
