TfL renew Addison Lee licence for next five years

Perry Richardson

Transport for London has issued minicab firm Addison Lee with a renewed operating licence set to last for the next five years.

The news follows months of speculation as the well known company received an initial extension to its licence for only six months which was due to expire in February.

Ongoing court appeals in regards to driver employment rights seem to have played no part in the regulators decision to renew their licence.

TfL are however now in line for a monster payout as changes to the payment structure for private hire operators could net them £700,000 over the duration of the licence set to end in 2023.

According to Reuters a spokesperson for the firm said “Addison Lee looks forward to continuing to offer Londoners a high quality, reliable service in getting around town. We are fully supportive of TfL’s efforts to enhance the standard of regulation in the private hire industry.”
