Uber pull out of Morocco amidst regulatory concerns

Perry Richardson

From Friday, Uber will halt it's services in Casablanca, Morocco, as they wait for new rules to be put in place to cater for their business model. Morocco currently does not recognise private hire vehicles and only has regulations in place for traditional taxis. This is not the first time Uber have had to pull out of a country due to current laws, they also had to stop operating in countries such as Norway and Finland. According to a report in Reuters , Uber have been in "consistent dialogue " with policy makers but have been unsuccessful in reaching an agreement to alter regulations. Uber have been operating in Morocco for over two years but have been unable to find a way of fitting into the country's current regulations.
