Open City Hall taxi and private hire debate set for next week

London’s Greater London Authority Transport Committee will meet next week to discuss how best the taxi and private hire vehicle industry in the capital can be supported and continue to thrive.

Guests from both taxi and private hire industries will attend the open meeting at City Hall on Tuesday 9th October.

The committee are said to be set to delve in to several key areas including whether entry level requirements for drivers are set correctly and also more controversially, what has the Mayor and regulators Transport for London done to ease traffic and congestion.

The meeting, which is to start at 10am in the main chamber, will be split into two sittings and feature the following private hire representatives first:

  • Steve Wright, Licensed Private Hire Car Association

  • Robert Scott, GLH

  • Andrew Wescott, Addison Lee

  • A representative of ViaVan

Then the taxi spokesmen take to the floor around 11.30am:

  • Mick Walker, London Cab Drivers Club

  • Trevor Merralls, United Cabbies Group

  • Steve McNamara, Licensed Taxi Drivers Association
