Two men taken into custody for allegedly pulling a large knife on Taxi driver

Police in Ilkeston have taken two males into custody after reports of a large "terrifying knife" was allegedly pulled on a taxi driver yesterday afternoon. A witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, claims they saw two men harassing a taxi driver at around 3.30pm.

Police arrived at the scene and searched the nearby area where they found two men whom they arrested on suspicion of having a knife. During the arrest and search, a large Bowie knife with a blade over 11 inches long was confiscated by the officers. Police dogs and armed officers were also called to assist the search. As reported in the Derbyshire Live, a spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: "Two men were arrested after a taxi driver was allegedly threatened with a weapon in Ilkeston.

"The alleged incident happened at around 3.30pm on Thursday, March, 21 in the Little Hallam area. "Officers conducted a search of the area and located two men who were arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. A weapon was also recovered from a property." They said one man remains in police custody and another has been released with no further action being taken.

A tweet by the Erewash Response Unit about the incident said: “Two males are in custody tonight after a taxi driver allegedly had a knife pulled out on him. “@DerbyshireARU and @DerbysDogPolice assisted with the search and arrest of the suspects along with recovery of the knife.” Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit also commented on the matter, saying: “Excellent teamwork yet again from Ops Support units helping @ErewashResponse - and a cracking result. “Yet another knife incident we have to deal with - there are really no excuses. It’s not too late to hand in any bladed weapons as part of #OpSceptre.”
