A taxi driver in Surrey was apprehended by the Vanguard Road Safe Team in Old Woking for what turned out to be a whole list of offences.

The driver was caught red-handed using their mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt, according to a spokesperson from Surrey RoadSafe.

Adding to the list of infractions, the driver also tested positive for cannabis during a drug wipe test. In addition, authorities discovered that one of the driver's tyres had an alarming tread depth of only 1.1mm, well below the legal requirement for safe driving.

Unsurprisingly, this resulted in the immediate arrest of the driver. While the report did not specify whether the driver was operating a taxi or a private hire vehicle, it was confirmed that they would be reported to the ‘taxi licensing department’.

A Surrey RoadSafe spokesperson said: “Driver stopped by Vanguard Road Safe Team in Old Woking as seen using their mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt.

“Also provided a positive drug wipe for cannabis and 1 trye found to only have 1.1mm of tread.

“Arrested for all offences and will be reported to taxi licencing department.”
