Man arrested after taxis targeted in robbery spree in Southampton

A man has been arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle after taxis were targeted for robbery yesterday in Southampton.

At around 2.30am on 13 February a taxi parked in Shakespeare Avenue was broken into through the driver's window and £30 in coins was stolen.

About 15 minutes later, a taxi in Portswood Avenue was broken into the same way and the glove box was searched but nothing was taken.

Officers attended and arrested a 27-year-old Southampton man near the scene on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle.

He remains in police custody at this time.
