Uber launches in Swansea marking first new city venture since 2017
Uber has officially launched its services in Swansea, marking its first new city venture since 2017.
The strategic move comes as a response to the significant interest from the locals in the Swansea area, with over 4,000 residents attempting to secure rides through the app on a weekly basis.
To celebrate its launch in Swansea, Uber are hoping to entice customers in with a promotion offering up to £20 off the next two rides for passengers until 24 March 2024.
The growth of Uber's driver base in the UK has surged by over 70% to exceed 100,000 since 2021.
Uber's platform, which first entered the UK market back in 2012, is designed for convenience and aims to offer customers a seamless experience from booking to payment through a single, user-friendly app.
Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK, said: “We are extremely proud to launch Uber in Swansea where we have been seeing increased demand for our services. By bringing Uber to the city we want to help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers, boost transport options for passengers, and support the local economy.”
Majid Iftikhar, a driver who has already signed up for Uber in Swansea, said: “I am excited for Uber to bring more work to Swansea, I can see it improving transport for locals and further help the local economy. Uber is perfect for me as I can work when I'm free, my wife doesn't drive so I can drop off and pick up kids from school. When I'm free, then I can work, Uber works in and around their schedules as well as my own."
