The long-awaited progress towards modernising the taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) sector in Wales has taken a significant step forward, as the summary of consultation responses to the Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle (Wales) Bill has been unveiled by the Welsh Government.

Following the publication of the White Paper on the bill in March 2023, almost 150 consultation responses were meticulously reviewed. These responses formed an integral part of gathering public opinion and expert insights regarding the proposed changes. Now, after careful analysis, a comprehensive summary of these responses has been made available to the public.

The Welsh Government's commitment to addressing various important issues within the taxi and PHV sector, such as cross-border concerns and licensing reforms, is aimed at enhancing safety, sustainability, and fairness for both passengers and operators.

In an eagerly anticipated move, the Deputy Minister for Climate Change, who has been at the forefront of driving these changes, is due to deliver an oral statement on 3 October 2023. This statement will outline the next steps to be taken in order to fulfil the Welsh Government's commitment to modernise the taxi and PHV sector as articulated in its Programme for Government.
