GMB deliver Uber "workers rights" petition to TfL supported by 100,000 people

18 Sep 2017

The GMB have delivered a 100,000 name strong petition to Transport for London calling for Uber to adhere to workers' rights.

The research carried out by consumer group SumOfUs shows that three quarters of people living in London think the regulator should make Uber adhere to working safeguards.

The GMB won an employment tribunal last year in a bid to improve its drivers working rights. Uber are currently appealing the decision arguing that they should not be guaranteeing drivers a minimum wage and holiday pay.

According to The Irish News GMB's Steve Garelick said "This is an unprecedented opportunity for TfL to show some muscle and force Uber to either treat drivers properly and protect public safety - or get out of London."
