Uber withdraw applications from several UK cities

15 Oct 2017

The under fire American minicab firm Uber are set to give up its expansion plans in at least nine cities around the United Kingdom.

Following news that London regulator Transport for London would not be renewing Uber's licence, other cities are now questioning whether Uber are fit to continue or start working in their regions.

One of the cities under threat includes Brighton. Uber will regard the south coast town as one of the larger UK markets, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to keep the license after its expiry next month. The main crux focuses on the cross-border hiring as drivers from other regions travel to Brighton to look for work.

It has also been reported in The Times that Uber have pulled out of planned expansion across the UK. Some of those cities include Oxford, Bournemouth, Hull, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Gateshead.

The move could be seen as an exercise to limit any further negative press in the form of rejected applications.
