Minicab driver accused of sexually assaulting teenage passenger

6 Dec 2017

A minicab driver from Plymouth has been accused of sexual assault on a teenage passenger.

Florian Scripcea, 39, allegedly touched the woman indecently over her clothing whilst she sat next to him in the front seat of his silver people carrier, a court heard.

Scripcea, also asked the lady if her breasts were real and paid her a number of compliments. The teenager was picked up at a bus stop where Scripcea saw her standing and asked her where she was going and if she wanted a lift. The 18 year old told him that she had no money to pay for the fare but he insisted he would be happy to take her anyway.

Sally Daulton, who opened the case for the Crown Prosecution Service, said:

"The nature of the assault in common parlance could be called groping over her clothes but nevertheless it was extremely distressing for a young girl late at night"

Daulton confirmed that the police identified through CCTV footage that Scripcea's vehicle was in the area at the alleged time of the assault. The Herald  reported. The victim also picked out Mr Scripcea from 14 images during a video identification parade.

Scripcea, who is married with two children, denies the claims. He said any suggestions he had sexually assaulted a passenger was "insane".

The trial continues at Plymouth Crown Court.
