York refuses Uber licence renewal

12 Dec 2017

It has been revealed that York City Council have refused to renew Uber's licence.

BBC reporter Phil Bodmer took to Twitter to say that York City council came to the decision after a lively debate. There will be more to follow from the BBC Look North team at 10.30pm this evening.

As of Christmas Eve, when their current licence runs out, the ride-hailing app will no longer be able to operate.

In a statement reported in the Daily Star  Uber described the decision as "disappointing" for it's riders.

A spokesperson for the council said:

"Applying the legislation, the committee has decided to refuse the application having concerns about a data breach currently under investigation and the number of complaints received"
