Cardiff council set to end taxi marshals

14 Jan 2018

Taxi marshals seen in and around Cardiff city centre to help lower disturbances and disorder are set to be scrapped in March.

The council says it needs to lower costs after recent budget cuts and seven redundancy notices have been given to marshals who work the busy Friday and Saturday night shifts.

The marshals have been a mainstay within the Welsh city since 2006 and are very much seen as a positive service that helps control large numbers of rowdy would be taxi customers and also have a direct radio line to emergency services.

Three marshals will however carry on serving Cardiff via ongoing funding from the Cardiff Business Improvement District.
