Brownies set for London black taxi challenge!

14 May 2018

Brownies in London are set to learn all about the London taxi trade via a new challenge which will earn them a coveted badge.

Aimee McChesney, the daughter and granddaughter of two generations of cabbies, created the challenge so that the youngsters could learn more about the history of London’s taxis and what it takes to become a driver of the iconic vehicle.

Whilst the trade runs in Aimee’s family she also runs a Brownie unit in Sidcup, South East London. There the girls aged 7-10 years old cover a variety of topics which now includes “The Black Cab Challenge”.

The challenge covers a range of elements associated to the trade including:

  • The history of the trade and its vehicles

  • The Knowledge

  • Bill and Badge

  • London

  • Women taxi drivers

To gain the badge the Brownies are asked to complete multiple tasks including designing a future taxi and learning to read a map.

Aimee said “Given how much I love black cabs and guiding I decided to merge the two together.

“With the input of Facebook group Save Our Black Taxis, it took roughly 6 weeks to put together and get it approved by Girlguiding.

“I’ve produced 1,000 badges to sell which I hope will raise approximately £600. The funds will allow the whole Brownie pack a trip away and means no one misses out due to parental financial constraints.”

Well done Aimee from all of us at TaxiPoint!
