Uber announce new in-app safety features across Europe including access to driver checks

17 Oct 2018

Uber have today announced new safety features for passengers and drivers in more than 40 cities and towns across the UK.

A “safety toolkit” will now give riders and drivers easy access to a number of features including an option to share live trip details to up to five trusted friends or family members.

There is also an Emergency Assistance Button which will give riders the ability to contact local authorities directly through the app.

Drivers will gain access to an “Insurance Hub” which puts all insurance details in one place so they can easily access documents such as proof of insurance and information about coverage whether they are on or off a trip.

Features include:

Safety Centre: With the Safety Centre, riders and drivers will now have a dedicated place in the app to learn about key safety tips and information, including – 24/7 in-app support, information on the driver and the car, trip GPS-tracking and Uber’s rating and feedback system.

Trusted Contacts: Uber says it’s now even easier for riders and drivers to keep their loved ones in the loop. Users can select up to five friends or family members as Trusted Contacts and select when they want to be prompted to share their trip details.

Emergency assistance button: This features allows passengers to call for emergency assistance from local authorities directly from the app.

Address Anonymisation: The Uber app will now conceal specific pickup and dropoff addresses. Going forward, after a trip ends, the driver’s trip log will only show the general area where a trip started and ended, not the address.
