Fake Paris cabbie jailed for scamming Thai tourists

23 Nov 2018

A "scammer" posing as a Parisian private hire driver has been jailed, after forcing a Thai couple to pay £200 for a trip from the airport.

The "scammer," who was only identified as Enock C, was found guilty of fraud and extortion, involving threats, after picking up the couple from Charles De Gaulle Airport and taking them to central Paris.

The typical price for that journey is around £40 to £50. The driver tried to initially charge the couple £220.

The driver had claimed he was a VTC (private hire driver). When asked by the couple to produce his license, he showed them a document, however the VTC drivers network confirmed that the driver did not have a license.

According to The BBC Enock C was jailed by the court for 8 months
