Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling branded the most incompetent minister of all time in astonishing attack

18 Feb 2019

In what can only be described as an astonishing attack, Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling was branded the most incompetent minister of all time by former Conservative MP and cabinet minister Michael Portillo.

The attack was made on the BBC political programme This Week, with Grayling being pilloried by Portillo over his handling of the deal with Seabright Freight. The comment was also put on the BBC Twitter feed

Arch-Brexiteer, Grayling, awarded Seabright Freight a cross-channel ferry contract should the UK crash out of the European Union, however it emerged that Seabright Freight doesn't own one single ferry.

When it was discovered that Seabright Freight didn't have one single ferry, the beleaguered Secretary of State for Transport faced derision from a myriad of critics, with a number of them calling for his resignation.

However Michael Portillo went further during the interview on This Week when he repeated a Labour Party claim that Chris Grayling was the most incompetent minister of all time, probably, after being asked if Chris Grayling is fit for purpose.

He then added: "the reason he is there is because he os a euro-sceptic in the cabinet, and nearly all the other euro-sceptics have jumped ship by now."

He finally followed up by saying: "for the Prime Minister to lose yet another euro-sceptic would be very damaging."

It emerged last week that Seabright Freight had their £13.8m contract terminated after they revealed that they were unable to obtain the financial backing that they needed from Irish company Arklow Shipping.

Chris Grayling has come under fire for a number of months from the taxi industry, and even some quarters of the PHV industry, with many believing that because he is a "free-marketeer" he is an "Uber-phile."

He has alao come under heavy fire because of his lack of action in updating taxi and PHV legislation, including defining what constitutes "plying-for-hire", banning cross-border hiring and allowing regulators to ability to put a cap on licenses.
