Cab driver runs over man's hands following possible altercation about payment for the journey

A man’s hands were run over after he was attacked by a taxi driver who stole his phone.

The incident took place in Hessle, Hull, when the man said he got out of a cab to go get the money to pay for his journey.

As the man walked away from the vehicle , at 6.15am on February 22, it is alleged that the cab driver pushed him and stole his phone.

While trying to get the phone back, the man fell and trapped his hands under the vehicle's wheels as the driver pulled away.

The vehicle was a small saloon type car, possibly a Volvo. 


As covered by the Hull Daily Mail, a spokesman for Humberside Police said: “We are investigating a report that a man was allegedly assaulted by a taxi driver in Hessle in the early hours of Friday, February 22. 


“We received a call around 6.15am that the victim had been picked up on Anlaby Road and stopped off on Mount Avenue near to his home. 


“The man got out of the vehicle to go and get some money. While doing so he claimed the driver got out of his cab, followed him and pushed him before stealing his phone as payment. 


“He has also reported that in trying to get his phone back, the driver pulled away and the man fell and injured his hands which got trapped under the car's wheels.

“The driver has been described as male, white, in his early 40s, quite short with grey hair. The vehicle was a small saloon type car, possibly a Volvo.” 


It has not been confirmed whether the driver was a hackney carriage or private hire licence holder.
