Reading taxi driver has licence revoked after twice being caught driving on the pavement

29 Mar 2019

A taxi driver from Reading has had his licence revoked after twice being caught driving on the pavement.

The driver, Manzoor Hussain, was first spotted by police officers in April 2018.

The police watched the 44-year-old taxi driver drive from St Mary’s Butts to Oxford Road via the pavement in front of Metro bank and across the entrance to the Broad Street Mall to avoid traffic.

A month later he was caught a second time, this time on CCTV, driving across the pavement outside Tesco Express on Oxford Road to avoid having to reverse into a parking space.

Reading’s licensing committee agreed a my a meeting back in August 2018 to revoke Mr Hussain’s licence concluding he was not a fit and proper person to hold a licence.

The driver appealed the decision made against him and his case was heard at Reading Magistrates' Court. The court rejected his appeal and ordered him to pay legal costs of £500.
