A Billericay man is attempting to break a land speed record in the unlikeliest of vehicles.....a Thai tuk tuk which was used as a taxi in Bangkok.
46 year old Matt Everard, and his cousin, 49 year old Russell Shearman, will be attempting to smash the tuk tuk land speed record of 68mph.
Mr Everard bought the 1971 tuk tuk off of eBay from a seller in Bolton in 2017 for £3,000.
It was reported in The Metro that the rwcord attempt will take place at Elvington Airfield in North Yorkshire, with Shearman as Everard's passenger.
Mr Everard described the purchase of the tuk tuk as the result of a boozy night on eBay, also attributing it to a mid-life crisis.
However, Everard's mid-life crisis has seen him plough £20,000 into the project during a five-month rebuild.
The original two-stroke 350cc engine jas been replaced with a 1300cc fuel-injected Daihatsu van engine, meaning that the tuk tuk could reach an eye-watering 90mph
In the past, the self-confessed petrolhead owned a smorgasbord of machines, including eight cars, two boats, a jet ski and a quad bike.
The record attempt will take place on May 13, subject to weather conditions.
