Danes to see hydrogen taxis hit the streets of Copenhagen

30 Apr 2019

Danes have seen hydrogen taxis hit the streets of Copenhagen today as eight new fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) lead the way in reducing the Danish capitals taxi fleet to zero emissions by 2025.

The Toyota Mirai taxis are seen as the latest alternative to vehicles powered by fossil fuels providing the same range with none of the damaging emissions.

The cabs are being deployed via the Hydrogen Mobility Europe (H2ME) scheme, of which Hydrogen Denmark and Toyota are both partners.

Hydrogen powered vehicles expel no emissions or noxious gases, except water vapour According to many, this makes them a viable solution in the quest for reducing traffic pollution.

According to Gasworld, CEO of Hydrogen Denmark Tejs Laustsen Jensen said, “During the day many people will ride in these FCEV taxis and a great many more will see them in the streets.”

While Bart Biebuyck, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) Executive Director added: “Hydrogen is the ideal fuel for taxis due to the long driving range, and a short refill time of about three minutes.
