Mums For Lungs become the latest group to call for older taxis to be taken off the road

9 May 2019

It's been revealed that Mums For Lungs has become the latest group calling for older taxis to be taken off of London's roads.

It was reported in the Evening Standard that the group of mothers are calling for London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, to slash the serviceable life of a taxi from 15 years to 12 years, to help slash pollution levels in London.

With a Transport for London consultation on cutting the maximum age limit for taxis now closed, they are now reviewing and considering more than 4,000 responses.

Mums For Lungs founder, Jemima Hartshorn, said: “This is a livelihood for some people and they have invested in expensive cars but that needs to be dealt with in a different way … Our children cannot wait.”

However, the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association believe that an exhaust filter retro-fit, which would coat around £3,600 could be cheaper option than buying a £67,000 electric cab.
