Renfrewshire cab firm give cancer-stricken child dream holiday to Florida

18 May 2019

A Renfrewshire cab firm has gifted a cancer-stricken child and her family a dream holday to Florida.

38-year-old Jaqueline Webster entered a competition with Gryffe Radio Cars.

Jaqueline subsequently won the competition, and upon hearing that her daughter has cancer the £5,000 holiday became a £10,000 holiday.

It was revealed in The Sun that Jaqueline's daughter, 15-year-old Hayleigh Patterson, is fighting a brain tumour.

Jaqueline had initially entered the competition, along with 11,000 hopeful entrants, in the hope of winning a £5,000 holiday to the destination of their choice.

However, when the cab firm heard about their eventual winner’s plight, they doubled the prize fund. As a result, the family intend to go to Disneyworld as soon as Hayleigh is fit enough to travel.

Jaqueline explained to Gryffe Radio Cars boss, Andrew Hainey, that they wouldn't be able to travel straightaway as Hayleigh is undergoing chemo for rare brain cancer pineoblastoma, also the insurance costs may be prohibitive because of Hayleigh’s illness.

Mr Hainey then doubled the fund to make sure that Hayleigh and her family were able to afford the holiday.

Jacqueline said: “I imagine they won’t let her leave the country straight after treatment. We wouldn’t consider going away until next year – hopefully next summer.”

Andrew Hainey said: “We were just touched by the story and wanted to get her away on the holiday, we’re glad we could help the right person.”
