Man jailed after knocking taxi driver unconscious and breaking his arm

A man has been jailed after knocking a taxi driver unconscious and breaking his arm in a joint attack.

 

24 year old Liam Makin, of Peel House, Crosley Wood Road, Bingley, along with another man, attacked cabbie Nasir Hussain outside a Tesco's store in Otley Road, Bradford on 22 September 2017.

Makin, who then jumped bail and went on the run to Scotland, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and assaulting Mr Hussain occasioning him actual bodily harm when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday. 

 

Gareth Henderson-Moore, prosecuting, explained to the court that Makin and an unnamed male hit Mr Hussain on the head while he was in his vehicle after an argument. 

 

When Mr Hussain attempted to escape by running into the Tesco store, he was then dragged to the ground. Makin was caught on CCTV kicking him, resulting in Mr Hussain suffering head injuries, a fractured arm and bruising to his body, he was also knocked unconscious in the attack.

 

It was revealed in court that Makin had an incredible 35 convictions for 53 offences, which included robbery, burglary, theft, and assaulting a police officer. 


Clare Walsh, Makin's defence barrister, told the court that her client was under the influence of alcohol when he assaulted Mr Hussain.
 

According to the Telegraph and Argus, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, said: "It was a serious joint attack upon a gentleman doing a valuable public service."

 

Makin was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for attacking Mr Hussain and two months custody to run consecutively for the Bail Act offence.
