6-year-old Reggie Wearn was left needing plastic surgery on his leg after being dragged underneath a cab in Portsmouth.
He now has an agonising wait to find out how his leg will heal.
Wearn was hit and then dragged under the vehicle being driven by nearby neighbour Mirza Beig, 48, after falling off his scooter into the road.
The young child’s injuries were described as 'serious' by surgeons, but not life threatening.
Reggie's mother hasn't left his side since being rushed to hospital, where he's likely to stay for another fortnight.
As reported on Portsmouth News, a relative said: "His mum is heartbroken by what has happened – she hasn’t left his side. She is beside herself with worry. He’s had an operation but now needs another one – we’re not sure if the leg will be ok."
Police are yet to analyse CCTV footage from a neighbour to determine if there is any blame involved.
Reggie told his mother that he had not been playing in the road but had fallen into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
Residents raised concerns over cars speeding as well as children playing in the road.
The cab driver is now calling for double-yellow lines to be marked on that particular stretch of the road, which is known for being dangerous, so no one can park their vehicles there.
No arrests have been made in connection with the horrific incident.
