Private hire driver in London sees fine go up over 10-fold after failing to attend court

5 Sep 2019

A private hire driver in London has seen a fixed penalty notice of £50 increase more than 10-fold after failing to attend a court hearing.

The unnamed minicab driver was issued a £50 penalty for a foglight offence in January of this year.

The driver, who was stopped by a Transport for London Taxi and Private Hire Enforcement Unit opted to attend court to fight his case, however he didn't show up.

As a result, the case was heard in his absence and the driver received a fine of £565.

Roads and Transport MPS took to their Twitter feed to warn drivers to only use foglamps when visibility is low.
