Didsbury primary school issues safety warning after reports of a man claiming to be a taxi driver asked a young boy into his vehicle

14 Sep 2019

Parents at a primary school in Didsbury have been issued a safety warning after a year six student reported a man claiming to be a taxi driver asked him into his vehicle.

The incident is said to have happened as the boy was walking home from attending St Catherine's RC primary school on Thursday afternoon.

A young boy, aged between ten and eleven, said he was stopped by a taxi driver who asked him to get in the car.

The boy refused and the school was later informed.

Children at the school have been urged to report anything suspicious straight away.

The school sent a text to parents and carers about the incident.

As first reported in the Manchester Evening News, the message read: "Just so you are aware, when one of our year 6 children walked home after school yesterday a taxi driver stopped and asked him to get in the car. He of course didn't and therefore he came to no harm.

"Whether you have given written permission for your child to walk home unaccompanied, or you collect them to walk on their own, please make them aware of what to do.

"We always encourage the children to return to school and talk to a member of staff if they are worried about anything at all. We can then contact you.

"We have stressed this with the children in school today."
