It has emerged that new taxi and private hire legislation may be included in the Queen's speech, which takes place on 14 October.

Ilford North MP and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group, which produced a report into taxis and private hire, raised the matter again in parliament yesterday.

George Freeman MP, the Future of Transport Minister, responded on behalf of Taxis Minister Baroness Vere, praising both the trade and the APPG for their work on this issue.

He also acknowledged the consensus from the Task and Finish Group and twice hinted strongly that the legislation would be included in the upcoming Queen’s Speech.

Steve McNamara, General Secretary of the LTDA said: "With the current uncertainty over everything in Parliament, nothing is guaranteed, but yesterday's debate and response were extremely encouraging."
