A female private hire driver who was caught carrying five passengers, one more than she's licenced to allow, has been issued a warning by Glasgow City Council.
A complaint was made to the licensing board after PHV driver, Sannah Ali, was spotted driving with an overload of passengers.
The council has called Ali to stand before the city's licensing committee. Council meeting details published showed that the members of the board decided to just issue Ali with a warning along with a reminder of future conduct.
Miss Ali, who according to a report in the Evening Times, works as a driver for ride-sharing platform Uber, said she didn't see the extra person get in her vehicle.
The extra passenger sat in the back footwell and once she noticed, she stopped the vehicle and asked them to leave.
She added: “There were three women in the back of the car and a man in the front seat. He was quite chatty so I must have got distracted.”
Every licenced taxi and private hire vehicle states on its plate how many passengers it is authorised to legally carry. If that amount is exceeded then the vehicle's insurance would become void.
