180 TfL officers primarily assigned to Taxi and Private Hire compliance, says Mayor of London

Updated: Jan 7

In a recent inquiry by London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan revealed the scale of the team dedicated to Taxi and Private Hire (TPH) compliance in the city.

According to the Mayor, Transport for London (TfL) has over 500 CPOS Operations Officers within its structure, with a significant portion specifically focusing on TPH compliance and enforcement.

Out of this extensive team, 180 officers are assigned to the Roads and Vehicles area, primarily responsible for TPH compliance and red route enforcement.

Mayor Khan further elaborated that all CPOS Operations Officers within TfL are tasked with supporting TPH compliance activities. This support is not only part of their general patrol work but also through specific deployments and operations.

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said: “Transport for London (TfL) has over 500 CPOS Operations Officers within TfL. Of these, 180 are within the Roads and Vehicles area with the primary function of Taxi and Private Hire (TPH) compliance and red route enforcement.

“All TfL’s CPOS Operations Officers will support TPH compliance activities as part of their general patrol work and through specific deployments and operations.

“TfL’s operating model for compliance and enforcement requires that all our officers are flexible, adaptable and multi-skilled to respond to operational needs and demands.”
