Student jailed for false taxi rape allegation

A student from Leeds has been jailed for 16 months after falsely claiming that she had been raped by a local taxi driver.

Sophie Pointon, who had aspirations to become a police officer, made the false accusations to the police after the taxi driver refused to take a £10 note covered in kebab oil.

The taxi driver, a practising Muslim, stated that he was "religiously tainted" by Pointon's accusations. According to The Metro he claimed he was shunned by the community he lives in as a result.

This story serves as a stark reminder to drivers and their families as to how cabbies can be open to these horrendous claims. The driver in this case was backed up by GPS data and a conversation with his radio operator.
