National Insurance could cost Uber Tens of Millions

A number of bosses were today questioned by a parliamentary business committee looking into some of the concerns surrounding the employment status of those operating within the "gig economy. "
Among those summoned to parliament was Andrew Byrne, Ubers Head of policy in the UK. According to sources at The Mirror Uber has said classing its British drivers as employees would cost the company ‘tens of millions of pounds’ in National Insurance.
Mr Byrne stated to the committee that "I don't have the precise figures ... but I'm certain it would be the tens of millions certainly,"
The meeting comes amid mounting anger at zero-hours contracts and lack of employment protection.
