Drink driver who ploughed into taxi jailed
An Aberdeen drink driver has been jailed for 3 years after smashing into a taxi.
Kamil Patora, 28 from Aberdeen, hit the taxi head-on at around 70mph, whilst almost 3 and a half times over the legal limit.
The force of the impact between the two vehicles was so hard that the taxi was pushed back 40 feet, incredibly nobody was killed although serious injuries were sustained by the taxi driver and one of the passengers who had a fractured spine.
The Evening Express reported that the incident took place in the early hours of the morning on January 1st 2017.
Aberdeen Sherriff Court heard that Patora and his girlfriend had attended a hogmanay party, after arriving home, Patora decided to visit a friend.
The court also heard how the defendant hit a traffic island before failing to negotiate a bend, subsequently colliding with an oncoming taxi after careering over to the opposite carriageway.
Police attending the scene found a three quarter empty bottle of vodka, and Patora slurring his words.
Upon pleading guilty to causing serious injury by driving dangerously and to driving under the influence of alcohol, he was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and was also disqualified from driving for 6 years.
