EU rule Uber as a transport company

The European Unions highest court has ruled the controversial minicab service Uber as a transport company. Uber has long argued that it is a technology company rather than a private hire or transportation company, and therefore, not subject to the same regulations as other transport providers.

This ruling may have several implications including strengthening the case for the American firm to pay VAT on all rides in the UK and adhering to more stringent local taxi regulations.

Steve Garelick, GMB said "So the EU have ruled Uber is a Car Service not a tech company. No more trying to confuse and pretend."
