Fake Uber app that hijacks phones doing the rounds

A fake cloning app on Android phones which mirrors Uber users login screen has been discovered stealing usernames and passwords from unsuspecting victims.

It has been reported in Fast Company that the cyber-security firm, Symantec discovered the cloning malware, which is a later variant of viruses which impersonate other apps.

The clone app allows a link into inner screens in other apps. The copied user interface pops up onto the victims screen,  tricking the user into entering their Uber ID and password and the information is then stolen. The unsuspecting victim at that point is unaware of anything being untoward.

Symantec have advised smartphone users to only install apps from trusted sources.
