Taxi fleet Fulham Cab Company take first delivery of new EV cab
The first delivery of the first major London fleet order for the world’s most advanced electric taxi has taken place this week, with Fulham Cab Company collecting the first of its 40 new TX eCity. These vehicles will be added to their existing 100 vehicle fleet of taxis. Fleet owner John Flynn and his first renter, Kevin Nutley, collected the first vehicle in person from LEVC’s London showroom during the week. John Flynn, who has been a taxi driver himself for 38 years, has run his current fleet since 2005. Since then he has regularly updated his vehicles to ensure a better quality of service for those renting from him. Over the years, Mr Flynn has bought around 200 TX4s and has built a loyal customer base solely through word of mouth. Mr Flynn’s new taxi, the TX, is the world’s first purpose-built electric taxi and has been designed with a focus on the needs of London’s passengers and drivers. The result is an electric vehicle, with range-extender engine to provide almost 400 miles of range, making it flexible for all drivers’ needs. In addition, it offers passengers one of the capital’s safest, cleanest and most comfortable journeys.
The Fulham Cab Company fleet is already one of the cleanest in London, and his current TX4 fleet are all Euro 5 diesels or above. However, it wasn’t the new vehicle’s environmental credentials that attracted Mr Flynn to the new vehicle.
John Flynn said: “I don’t want to spend time and effort repairing older vehicles, and electric vehicles mean longer gaps between servicing and generally need less work. It just means less aggravation for me, and more time on the road for the vehicles.” The new electric taxi comes with three years free servicing, a five-year unlimited mileage battery warranty and a full three-year, 120,000 miles vehicle warranty. The new taxi will be able to charge at any one of London’s 100 rapid charge points, 51 of which are dedicated solely for taxi use. As a result, all drivers will be able to benefit from lower fuel costs, whilst TX drivers get exclusive discounted access to London’s growing electric charging network. Initially, the first drivers of these 40 vehicles will be existing customers although expressions of interest from other renters are welcomed. Mr Flynn is expecting strong interest in his new taxis.
