Taxi drivers in Bodrum bring traffic to a standstill after cabbie is arrested for attacking Uber dri

Taxi drivers in Bodrum, Turkey have brought part of the popular holiday resort to a standstill, after a cabbie was arrested for attacking an Uber driver.

According to Hurriyet Daily News as many as 800 cabbies blockaded the road between Bodrum and Milas.

The incident between the taxi driver and the Uber driver, which took place on July 25th and sparked the subsequent protest took place in the Yalikavak district of Bodrum.

The blockade was eventually lifted after 45 minutes, when Bodrum Chamber of Drivers chair Hasan Kablı spoke to angry drivers, and persuaded them that blocking the road was not a solition to the problems surrounding Uber.

On June 1st, Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan effectively ended Uber's operation in Turkey, although despite being all but driven out of Istanbul, they are still operating in some holiday resorts, with around 1000 still operating in Bodrum.
