Pedestrian left with critical injuries following collision with cyclist in Hackney

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Roads and Transport Command are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman was left with critical injuries following a collision with a cyclist. On Tuesday, 28 August at approximately 17:07hrs police were called to reports of a pedestrian and cyclist in collision on Kingsland High Street, E8. The pedestrian, a woman, believed to be in her 50s collided with the pedal cyclist as she attempted to cross the road. Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance. The woman was taken to hospital where she remains with life-threatening injuries. Officers are currently trying to trace her next of kin. The cyclist, only described as a male, initially stopped due to coming of his bike, however, made off a few moments later. The bike was later abandoned on Approach Close, N16 and it has been recovered by police. At this stage there has been no arrests. Road closures are in place and enquiries continue. CCTV footage is being reviewed by officers. Detective Constable Darren Case, Serious Collisions Investigations Unit [SCIU] said: "This is a shocking incident as it appears the cyclist involved did not stop to assist the victim or contact the emergency services, instead making off. "We need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time. Did you see the cyclist before, during or after the collision? Maybe you are in possession of dash cam footage or filmed the cyclist on your mobile phone as he made off, if you did it is vital that you make contact with us. "We are also appealing directly to the cyclist along with his friends and family who may know of his whereabouts, the pedestrian has suffered life threatening injuries as a result of this collision and it is important that you do the right thing and make contact with police."
