Video: Man charged for alleged assault on Australian taxi driver

A man has been charged following the alleged assault of a taxi driver in Sydney yesterday.

Earlier this week, a 36-year-old man was driving a taxi west along market Street with a female passenger. As the taxi driver was changing lanes on Market Street an altercation occurred with the driver of a Hiace van. As both vehicles approached the intersection of Market Street and Clarence Street the signal was red and both vehicles came to a stop.

It’s alleged the driver of the van got out of his car and approached the taxi driver where a confrontation occurred. The taxi driver remained in the taxi while the man allegedly jumped on the bonnet and smashed the windscreen before walking to the driver’s side window where he started punching the driver. Members of the public came to the aid of the taxi driver and both parties left the area. The taxi driver attended Surry Hills Police Station where he reported the matter. The 36-year-old driver of the van attended Mt Druitt Police Station where he was arrested. He was taken to Riverstone Police Station where he was interviewed and charged with assault and malicious damage. He was given bail and will appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 19 September 2018.
