Cheltenham cabbies leave woman stranded

Cabbies who work the Promenade rank in Cheltenham have come under fire after it was alleged that drivers had refused to take a woman home, late at night, because the journey was less than a mile.

It was reported in Gloucestershire Live that Agata Cybulska took to Facebook to express her dismay at being forced to walk through the town centre when cabbies on the rank refused to take her on such a short fare.

23 year old Ms Cybulska was subsequently spoken to by the Cheltenham Guardians, an award winning community emergency response team, who were patrolling the area, they then took her home, after she explained to them that she was frightened to walk home alone at that time.

It is believed that the cabbies refused the short fare because they would have to go to the back of the rank to get another job upon their return,  and that it could take some time to get to the front of the rank again.

The council’s licensing team leader, Louis Krog, has urged the lady to come forward in the hope of identifying the drivers who had refused her, so that the appropriate action can be taken.
