Uber driver arrested along with passenger after failing drugs test

An Uber driver in Merseyside has been arrested for driving while under the influence of drugs drugs after Merseyside Police's Road Policing Unit stopped him to make a routine check.

Merseyside Police's Roads Policing Unit took to Twitter to tell of the successful bust in the early hours of Wednesday and confirmed that not only was the Uber driver high on drugs, but his passenger was also arrested for possession of a controlled drug.

During a search of the vehicle, even more drugs were found.  From the image posted by the Road Policing Unit, the driver involved was working for the ride-hailing app Uber at the time of the arrest.

Last year more than forty drivers were arrested for the offence after a concerted effort was made by Merseyside Police to crackdown on taxi and private hire drivers getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs, which was reported in TaxiPoint.
