Coatbridge PHV driver crashes after being six times over the limit

Steve Kenton

A private hire driver from Coatbridge who was involved in a crash was found to be six times over the legal limit.

Police were called after a vehicle was damaged in the crash, with a resident suspecting that PHV driver was under the influence of alcohol.

50 year old Neil Smith, of Kintyre Drive, Coatbridge was put under supervision for six months when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.

He was also ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid community work. Smith was also banned from driving for 20 months. The private hire driver admitted having a breath/alcohol reading of 131 when driving in Motherwell on January 15.

Smith could now lose his private hire licence as a result of his conviction.
